LIVERMORE, Calif. (January 13, 2020) — On Tuesday February 4, Dr. Shashank V. Joshi, a world-renowned expert in mental health and Professor of Psychiatry, Pediatrics and Education at Stanford University, will present a lecture on the topic, “Promoting Mental Health in School Settings”.
Dr. Joshi is the Director of Training and Director of School Mental Health Services in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Stanford Children’s Health. He has been the recipient of numerous awards in
teaching and public service, including the Tall Tree Award from the City of Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce and an Unsung Hero Award from the Santa Clara County, California, Mental Health Board—both for his work
in stigma reduction and suicide prevention. Dr. Joshi’s research focuses on wellbeing promotion and suicide prevention in school settings, cultural aspects of pediatric health, and interprofessional collaboration in
schools. He is the lead author of the K12 Toolkit for Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention used by the California Department of Education, and co-editor of the recent book Partnerships for Mental Health: A Guide to Community and Academic Collaboration. The lecture and Q & A session will take place on Tuesday February 4 from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm at Las Positas College, Mertes Center for the Arts, Main Theater, Building 4000, Livermore, CA 94551. The Alan Hu Foundation was created by Xiaofang Chen and Chih-Ching Hu in memory of their son, Alan. He passed away due to mental disorders in 2018 at the age of 15. Their mission is to promote mental health, raise awareness and remove stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders, and to support fundamental research for cures.
