Pleasanton, CA — May 3, 2024 — The Board of Directors of the Alan Hu Foundation is pleased to announce the 2024 Alan Hu Foundation Scholarship has been awarded to the following Tri-Valley high school seniors:Superiority Award-$1000 – Arnav Godavarthi (Amador), Jiya Patil (Foothill), Lila Schwartz (Vineyard Alternative/Las Positas Middle College), Nola McAllister (Livermore), Seoyun Kim (Dublin), Siena Queirolo (Granada), Meritorious Award-$500 – Beckett Caitlyn Kutz (Dublin), Justin Chuck (Dublin), Lena Garuda (Foothill), Maulika Mehra (Amador), Excellence Award-$250 – Karissa Yeung (Amador), Raquel Sutter (Granada), Rebecca Diaz (Dublin) Tyler Coto (Dublin), Outstanding Finalist-$100 – Niko Macario (Amador), Sarah Le (Amador), Elise Goulart (Livermore), Caitlyn Burgess (Dublin), Danica Lee (Dublin), Esha Shenoy (Dublin), Lasya Gangadari (Dublin), Nivedita Rao (Dublin), and Srija Nampally (Dublin).
“Thanks to donations and ticket sales from our recent benefit concert, “Bridge Over Troubled Water 2”, we were able to increase the Alan Hu Foundation Scholarship Fund by over $4000.00 and award close to $10,000.00 in scholarships. We want to encourage students to pursue college majors and careers in mental health, as the need is so great for mental health services and providers. Our 2024 recipients aspire to be medical doctors, nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, neuroscientists, teachers, police officers, firefighters, and EMTs. It is gratifying that we awarded the Alan Hu Foundation Scholarship to these promising young people. We hope they may someday be speakers for the Alan Hu Foundation Mental Health Lecture Series,” said Xiaofang Chen, Co-Founder and President of the Alan Hu Foundation.
The Alan Hu Foundation Scholarship encourages young talents to study in mental health-related fields. It was created in memory of Alan Hu and Sarah Rahman, young people with great promise whose battles with mental illness resulted in suicide. The mission of the Alan Hu Foundation is to promote mental health, raise awareness and remove stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders, and to support fundamental research for cures.
